The city of Los Angeles was founded in 1781 by 44 people, 26 of whom were of African descent. This makes Los Angeles one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the world. It is no surprise that President Barack Obama spent two years in Los Angeles. The California African American Museum (CAAM) is located in the historic Exposition Park in downtown Los Angeles.
The 44,000 square foot facility opened to the public during the 1984 Olympic Games and houses a collection ranging from traditional African art to artifacts from the estate of L. A. The African-American Fire Museum (AAFM) was inaugurated in 1997 and is located in the former 30 fire station in South Los Angeles. The museum was originally dedicated to recognizing the first 100 years of service of L.
and is currently the first and only museum of its kind in the country. The first floor contains vintage fire equipment, stories, and images of pioneering African-American firefighters, while the second-floor gallery features photographs, artifacts, and other memorabilia of firefighters, captains, principal officers, and historic African-American female fire service professionals from across the country.The Aeronautical Museum of Tomorrow (TAM) is a living classroom that brings the history of aviation to life and allows disadvantaged young people to literally dream of flying. Located in South Los Angeles, TAM presents interactive exhibits that explore racial diversity in the evolution of modern flight, the Tuskegee Aviator Learning Center, the Sky Lab computer center and an operational aircraft with static screen.
